| One of the most original and distinguished dance companies in Cuba, Compañía de la Danza Narciso Medina was founded in 1993 by Narciso Medina. The company responds to all the latest tendencies of the contemporary dance such as dance-theatre, body contact and minimalism, and the works of the company move in between the marvelous reality of the magic world of American primitivism and the post-modernism of contemporary art. Graduated from the National School of Arts in Havana City, Cuba, in 1991, Medina had worked for Danza Contemporánea de Cuba as a soloist and principal choreographer for 12 years. Especially as a creator and choreographer, Medina has worked intensively for 20 years in all genres such as Cuban contemporary dance, folklore, popular dance and musicals. Along with his own company, he opened the first self-supported dance academy in Cuba, which attracts students from all over the world. As a professor and choreographer, he presented classes for the academies, universities and performances at theatres and festivals, which include Teatro de la Villa de Madrid, the Palace of Sport in Versailles, France, Guggenheim Museum in New York, and Special Event for the 75th Anniversary of Cuba-Japan Diplomatic Relations, among others. |
