| In addition, he has
dedicated to promoting the dance as a critic, the
artistic director of a dance festival as well as
a local representative to several international
cultural exchanges bodies. With decades of experiences,
Mr. Lee is one of the most respected dance critics
in Korea and was the former president of the Korean
Society of Dance Critics.
He established in 1996 the CID-UNESCO Korea Chapter
(the Korean representative of Conseil International
de la Danse or International Dance Council) and
successfully hosted the 13th CID-UNESCO General
Assembly in Seoul in 1998, attracting eyes in
the worldwide dance society to emerging Korea.
Driven by his constant interest in promoting
Korean dance abroad and introducing outstanding
global dance pieces to Korean audiences, the CID-UNESCO
Korea Chapter launched annual dance festival,
Seoul International Dance Festival (SIDance) in
1998.
SIDance also focuses on boosting cultural exchanges
by supporting collaborations and co-production
between local artists and overseas festival and
dance artists.
The diversity and excellence of its dance selection
has enabled SIDance to become the most prestigious
dance event in Korea.
In 2004, Mr. Lee was named as an executive council
member of The Association of Asian Performing
Arts Festivals (AAPAF), and SIDance became the
representative of Korea to the AAPAF and is entitled
to serve as a liaison to international performing
arts networks and organizations.
AAPAF was inaugurated in Singapore on 19 June
2004, aiming to recognize the growth of arts festivals
in the Asian region by establishing a network
to accelerate co-sharing, commissioning, and touring
works.
In November 2004, he hosted second executive
council meeting of the AAPAF in Seoul. In accordance
with the meeting, Mr. Lee held a performing arts
showcase to introduce talented young Korean artists
to visiting key figures of major Asian festivals.
The showcase saw two groups of eight participants
invited to the Singapore Asian Arts Mart this
year, while several Asian arts festivals have
also indicated their interest in inviting some
of them.
He also joined the Asian Arts Net with strong
interest in accelerating the international cultural
exchanges.
His enthusiasm and contribution to the Korean
dance society and artists have allowed him to
act as Korean representative to several international
organizations such as the Prix de Lausanne and
IOTPD (International Organization for the Transition
of Professional Dancers).
Mr. Lee has been advising the Ministry of Culture
and Tourism, the Korea Foundation, the Seoul Foundation
for Arts and Culture and the Korea Culture and
Arts Foundation and more local and foreign authorities
and organizations in initiating and exercising
policies and programs related with culture and
arts, including the Performing Arts Market in
Seoul that will be launched later in 2005.
He translated the <Le Spectateur Engage>
(1982) and wrote parts of <Contemporary Dance
Scenes in Korea>, <Centennial of Korean
Dance> and was a contributing writer of <International
Dictionary of Modern Dance> published by St
James Press in 1998.
Simply summarizing his all the activities and
enthusiasm in dance, Mr. Lee says, ¡°I do everything
for dance, except dancing myself.¡± |
