Susanne Linke has shown impressive works that absorbed elements of both German traditional dance
and contemporary Tanztheater. Having studied under Mary Wigman, the pioneer of German
expressionist dance, Linke also worked as a dancer at Folkwang University of the Arts founded by
Kurt Jooss.

Having closely worked with Carolyn Carlson, Dominique Bagouet, Matilde Monnier and Peter Goss in
his early age, Pedro Pauwels received high acclaims for the series of <Dying Swan>
choreographed specially for him by 8 world-renowned female choreographers. The audience showed
rave reaction to his outstanding works presented at SIDance in 1998, 2000 and 2008. Pauwels is
also known for his open and active fusion of a variety of genres such as theater, hip-hop,
improvisational music, techno music and so on.

H.ART Chaos, a dance company of female dancers which was founded in 1989 by choreographer Sakiko
Oshima and Korean-Japanese dancer Naoko Shirakawa, amis to reject the confined and stagnant role

this objective, the images of aestheticism captivate the audience’s attention, while the

Born in Yugoslavia, Josef Nadj took strong interest in theater after studying in Budapast
University, which led him to move to Paris in 1980. He then developed his interests in dance
through the movements training with Marcel Marceau, Etienne Decroux and Jacques Lecoq made.
After founding his own company in 1986, he made his full debut in 1987 with <Beijing Duck>
which combined contemporary dance and theatrical elements. Since 1995, Nadj has been the
artistic director of the National Chreographic Center of Orleans, France.

Born in Paris in 1961, Philippe Decouflé studied mine from Marcel Marceau. With his cultural
roots in comedy, rock music, clib dance and a Bauhaus choreographer Oskar Schlemmer, Decouflé
founded his own company DCA in 1983, whose first work <Vague café> won the Bagnolet Dance
Competition. His range of creativity covering video art, film and musicals, his international
recognition reached its climax when he directed the opening and closing ceremories of the 16th
Winter Olympics in Albertville, 1992.

Founded in 1971 by Ton Wiggers and Hans Focking and based in Arnhem, the Netherlands, Intodans’ woks have their roots in classical ballet. They have focused on presenting works not only for adults but also for children and youth, and has repertoire of works by such world-famous choreographers as Jiří Kylián, Hans van Manen, Nils Christe, Matz EK and Ohad naharin.
Acontemporary dance choreographer from China and also an ethnic Korean, Jin Xing was the first person from mainland China who studied in the States with the art scholarship. As a versatile performing artist-choreographerm dancer, director and actress-, Jin Xing was named the Best Choreographer in 1991 ADF(American Dance Festival). Also, she founded in 1996 the ‘Beijing Modern Dance Ensemble’, the first private contemporary dance company in China, and in 2000 the Jin Xing Dance Theatre Shanghai. She also has been introducing international dance companies to Chinese dance scene through Shanghai International Dance Festival which she launched in 2006.
Born in Grenoble and studied fine art, Gallotta had his first contact with dance at the age of
20. After this, in searching for new ways of expression, he learned various technique from
ballet to tap dance and contemporary dance. In 1979, he founded Groupe Emile Dubois with
dancers, actors and musicians, which became the resident company of ‘House of Culture Grenoble’
in 1981 and then National Choreographic Center of Grenoble. His work <Mammame> in 1987
earned him the prize for Best Foreign Work International Festival for New Dance in Montreal.
Gallotta became the head of ‘House of Culture Grenoble’, undeniably a most esteemed position as
a dance artist.

Having passed away in 2007, Maurice Béjart was called ‘a revolutionary of 20th century
ballet’;his sensational work in 1955 <Symphony for a Lonely Man> earned him international
attention by completely breaking away from the existing style of ballet, using everyday costumes
and popular music. Maurice Béjart was born in France and worked as a dancer and choreographer at
Royal Swedish Ballet and Etoile Ballet, after which he founded his own company in 1957. Having
been at the forefront of international modern ballet, his numerous works including <Le Sacre
du Printemps> and <Bolero> are now the important classics of modern ballet. Moreover,
his establishment of ‘Ballet du XXe siècle(20th Century Ballet)’ and ‘Mudra Ballet School’
produced many talented choreographers. Béjart constantly sought the revolution in ballet by
bravely absorbing various styles of jazz, avant grade music and acrobatics.

Born in 1969, Inbal Pinto, after working at Batsheva Dance Company, has shown her works in many prestigious theaters and festivals : Haus der Kurturen der Welt in Berlin, Metropolitan Museum in New York, Suzanne Dellal Center, Lyon Dance Biennale, Jacob’s Pillow and ADF(American Dance Festival). Her works are recognized for its unique creativity and original ideas, one of which is <Oyster>, a co-production with Maison de la Danse of Lyon in 1999, which gained a special award at the Israeli Theatre Awards for the Best Event in performing arts.
Olga Pona is the gead of Chelyabinsk Theater of Contemporary Dance, which participated in SIDance
in 2002. She was invited to choreograph at Düsseldof Tanzhaus NRW, Germany, and European Dance
Development Center(EDDC) in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Pona is also a winner of the Golden Mask
for best contemporary choreography, the most prestigious award of performing arts in Russia. By
using the themes from everyday life, her sorks show rich Russian sentiments and excellent
expression of details that realize the themes.

Born in France in 1951, Maguy Mari made her debut as a choreographer in 1977 after working at
Strasbourg Ballet and Maurice Bejart’s Ballet du XXe siècle. She has been one of the leading
choreographers in Europe because of her interesting approach of harmonizing musicality and
theatricality in the works of her company which was founded in 1978. Her unique insights on
human relationships are clearly expressed in each work. Marin is currently the artistic director
of National Choreographic Center of Rillieux-la-pape.

Akram Khan is one of the choreographers who are at the center of attention in conemporary dance
scene, not least because of his collaborations with Sylvie Guillem and Juliette Binoche. When hi
visited Korea for the first time in 2004 at SIDance, Khan was a star choreographer who is
actively supported by British government. Born to Bangladesh parents, he studied kathak at the
academy of Indian traditional dance, and contemporary dance at De Montfort University and
Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. His career took off from 1999 and Khan gained
recognition as the best new artist at Time Out Live, from the Critics’ Association in the
category of dance in 2000, and as the best choreographer at the South Bank Show in 2002.

After the pleasant shock of <The Möbius strip> on his first visit to Korea in 2004, Gilles Jobin comes back to SIDance in 5years. His choreographic language that ‘rejects to be confined in the given conventional aesthetics’ has gained recognition which shows a clever use of space, profound and meticulous exploration of human conditions and the combination of different elements in media, visual art, spoken language and performance. This was also proved by his winning the prize from Foundation Vaudoise, aiming to stimulate artistic creations, and the prize for ‘New Choreographer’ from the Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers(SACD). After his debut in mid-90s, Jobin was invited to numerous stages internationally. He is certainly one of the few choreographers who constantly questions the absurd in contemporary society and explores the mysteries of life, which he expresses with his outstanding dance language.
Tero Saarinen, dancer and choreographer who was a dancer in Finnish National Ballet, is an artist
who realizes perfect Finnish blend of classical ballet from Russia and France, Japanese butoh
and the techniques in contemporary dance. As a leading artist in Finnish contemporary dance,
Saarinen’s signature lies in the strangeness that com from the stylish movements, the ideas
charged with sensitivity and the transparent atmosphere. He is also a winner of Pro Finlandia in
2005 and of Finland prize in 2001, which goes working as the invited choreographer in many
prestigious companies like Batsheva Dance company, Ballet Gulbenkian, Lyon Opera Ballet and
Finnish national Ballet.

Wayne McGregor is famous for his extraordinary choreographies derived from brave crossings
between classical ballet and contemporary dance, artistry and popularity, live performance and

virtual dancers, as well as showing enormously speedy and crystal styles of movements. McGregor
founded random Dance in 1992 and was named the resident choreographer of the prestigious Royal

Itzik Galili was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and his first contact with dancer, which was not
particularly an early start, when he was in his late teens. Galili is now known as “the master

won the Public Prize at the International Competition for Choreography in Groningen and Philip
Morris Art Award, after which he was appointed to be the artistic director of NND/Galili Dance
in 1997, established by the Dutch Ministry of Culture. While solidifying his company as one of
the strongest dance companies around the world as its artistic director for 11 years, he also

Danish choreographer Ego Madsen met the Korean audience in 2008 with <Don Q>, inspired by <Don Quixote> by Cervantes. His contribution to Stuttgart Ballet made the company, barely known in the 60s, grow to be one of the most esteemed ballet companies among both the critics and the audience. After his position as the assistant director of Stuttgart Ballet, Madsen was the artistic director of NDTIII, where he one again became an important inspiration for Jiří Kylián, Rovert Wilson and Matz Ek. Known for his interpretation of Forsythe’s works, Montreal-born Eric Gauthier has worked with such great choreographers as Jiří Kylián, Hans van Manen and Nacho Duato. Christian Spuck, after working at Rosas and Needcompany, was a house choreographer at Stuttagart Ballet.
Former co-director National Choreographic Center in Le Havre and National Center for Contemporary
Dance in Angers, Joëlle Bouvier has the versatility of rich imagination for the youth, the

After his accidental stepping into the dance world in 1995, Barak Marshall, also a son of the well-known dancer/musician Margalit Oved, has become a prodigy in Israeli contemporary dance. His debut <Aunt Leah> won the first prize at ‘Shades of Dance Choreography’ in Suzanne Dellal Center in Israel and his 3rd piece <Emma Godman’s Wedding> won the Bagnolet Dance Competition in 1998 and Bonnie Bird Award to name a few. From 1998 to 1999, Marshall was a resident choreographer of American Dance Festival (ADF) and in 1999 was invited by Ohad Naharin to become the first house choreographer at Batsheva. But his leg injury after 2year of working made him stop dancing. <Monger>, shown at the 12th SIDance Festival is his ‘come back’ in 8years.
As a dancer and choreographer, Edward Clug has been leading Slovenia SNG Maribor Ballet since
2003. His numerous awards include: award for best original contemporary ballet at the 18th
International Ballet competition varna in 1998(Bulgaria), special award at the 3rd International
Ballet and Choreography competition in Nagoya in 1999(Japan), bronze medal at the International
Choreography Competition at the Bolchoi Theatre in Moscow in 2001, bronze medal for contemporary
choregraphy at the 4th International Ballet and choreography Competition in Nagoya in
2002(Japan) and bronze medal and Public Award at the 17th International Competition for
Choreographers Hanover in 2003. Also awarded the ‘Preseren Funnd’ in 2005. The most honorable
award in Slovenia, Clug got rave acclaims in Tanzmesse, Germany, as “a new choreographer who
will outdo choreographers of previous generation”. The minimalism filled with East European
sensitivity, stylish movements and brilliant interpretation of music are shown in his impressive
choreographic language.

Yossi Berg worked with DV8, Batsheva Dance Company, Yasmeen Gordder Company, etc. He created works for Batsheva Dance Ensemble, Donlon Dance Company, Introdans, Staats Theater Kassel and Belgrade Drama Theater, and received numerous international awards including the Israeli Ministry of Culture Awards for an “Outstanding Choreographers” and “Best Solo Artist perfomer”, and the first prizes at the International Competition for Choreography Contest “Burgos – New York.” Oded Graf has received two first prized in Dansolution, a choreography competition in Copenhagen, Denmark; first prize of the International Choreography Contest Burgos – New York; and a choreography prize from the Israeli-American Cultural Foundation.
Born in Ireland, Marguerite Donlon has worked with many world-renowned choreographers such as Maurice Béjart, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Natalia Makarova and Sir Kenneth Mac Millan. Since she became director of the ballet at the Saarländisches Staatstheater, she has been praised for many adapted versions of ballet classics and her own creations and nominated for the „Prix Benois de la Danse“ in 2007 with <Giselle: Reloaded> and for the German Theater Award „Der Faust“ with <Romeo & Juliet>. In October that same year, Donlon was awarded the „Saarländischer Verdienstorden“. Marguerite Donlon has choreographed for many other companies around the world Vienna State Ballet, NDT II, Stuttgart Ballet, Companhia Nacional de Bailando in Portugal as well as Hubbard Street Dance Company in Chicago. In 2010, she creates as director and choreographer Maurice Ravel’s <L’Enfant et les Sortilèges> for the Korean National Opera and Korean National Ballet. Also the artistic director of the international dance festival “n.o.w. dance saar”, Donlon was elected member president of the National Board of German Ballet and Dance Theatre Directors, BBTK in 2009.

Also from 2011, he is the choreographer together with Adi Salant Associated Artistic Director of The Batsheva Dance Company, for the project “Dance is culture- a bridge between Italy and Israel.” In addiction to the activity of choreographer, Mauro Astolfi is constantly guest teaching in the most important international dance centres in Tokyo, Paris, New York, Zürich, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, as well as in many Italian centres. Starting from 2009 he is artistic director of the Modern-Contemporary Department at D.A.F. (Dance Arts Faculty) in Rome.
Founded 45 years ago by Birgit Cullberg, the Swedish ballet legend and the mother of choreographer Mats Ek, Cullberg Ballet is regarded as the cultural ambassador of Sweden. After 2003, it is their second visit to Korea. The dancers from many different parts of the world boast their technique and talents in ballet, contemporary dance and theatre.
Born in Jerusalem, Yasmeen Godder studied dance in NYU and founded her own dance company in 1997. Her works have regularly been presented at the Suzanne Dellal Dance Center in Tel Aviv, and extensively throughout the world : Lincoin Center Festival in New York, Tokyo International Festival, Hebbel Am Ufer in Berlin, the Place Theater in London, Montpellier Dance Festival in France, Kunstenfestdesarts in Brussles, the Sydney Opera House and many more. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Bessie Award in New York in 2001, for presentation of

Dwight Rhoden
A native of Dayton, Ohio who began dancing at age 17, has performed with Dayton Contemporary
Dance Company, Les Ballet Jazz De Montreal and as a principal dancer with Alvin Ailey American
Dance Theater. In 1994, Rhoden and legendary dancer Desmond Richardson founded Complexions
Contemporary Ballet. Together they have brought their unique brand of contemporary dance to the
world for nearly 2 decades.
In 2005 Marcos Morau created La Veronal, company formed by artists from the dance, film and theatre. The artistic team purpose lies directly on a constant search for new expressive media, for cultural references - cinema, literature, music and photography, mostly - to bet on a strong narrative language with the intention of forming global art spaces that shape the inner world of their pieces. La Veronal has won many prizes at national and international choreographic contests. First prize at the choreographic contest of Madrid, Fira de Tàrrega prize, award at MasDanza - International Choreographic Contest of the Canary Islands, prize at the International Choreographic Contest of Copenhagen and a special mention in Huesca’s International Dance Fair and a special appearance at the International Biennial of Young Artists from Europe. La Veronal is creating a 10-part series where each piece’s background takes as a starting point a country or city in the world, creating an analogy between dance and geography. Pieces do not intend to become as documentary films that describe the country directly, but makes use of the elements that the name provide to carry out the development of an idea, an argument. These Decalogue is formed by Sweden (2008), Maryland (2009), Finland (2010), Russia (2011), Iceland (2012) and Siena (2013).
A student of a Parisian graphic arts school, Philippe Genty crossed 47 countries and 8 deserts behind the wheel of a Citroën 2CV, while shooting a film about puppet theatres around the world for UNESCO. In 1968, he founded Compagnie Philippe Genty and started creating various genres that blend puppetry, play, dance, mime, music and so on with his artistic partner, Mary Underwood. Constructing his own artistic world with never-before seen stage language, Philippe Genty grew to become a world renowned master of his craft. Winner of the Critics' Award at the Edinburgh Festival in the early 1990s while triggering a confrontation of two space-times and posing existential questions without the use of words, he has received fervent response from all around the world with his overwhelming and creative pieces.
Student, dancer, répétitrice, soloist dancer, choreographer and artistic director at this stage with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia, she has gone through all these stages from 1994 within the then called Compañía Andaluza de Danza (Andalusian Dance Company); a dance activist involved in this public project from the beginning. Born in Seville, Rafaela started dancing at the age of 8 at Matilde Coral’s dance school. When she was 18 she entered Mario Maya Company, where she was principal dancer and répétitrice. She then entered the Andalusian Dance Company as soloist with which she participated in the productions <Delo flamenco and Requiem (1994)> and then took part in <Los Caminos de Lorca (2004)>. In 2002 in the XL edition of the choreography contest of Spanish and flamenco dance, she was awarded all the contested prizes: first prize or best choreography, prize for best musical composition and prize for outstanding dancer. Rafaela Carrasco’s dance company has made nine productions since its creation. After the experience of having founded her own dance company. Rafaela Carrasco was selected in September 2013 as choreographer of Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia.
Jetfa van Dinther(SE/DE/NL) is a choreographer and dancer working between Stockholm and Berlin. He grew up in Sweden, after which he moved to the Netherlands and graduated from the Amsterdam School of the Arts(MTD) in 2003. His work is characterized by a rigorous physical approach and always implies a staged research of movement itself. The moving body is centerfold in his work but belongs to and interacts with a body of light, sound and materials that constitute an environment of perception and sensation. The dancers work and dance their way through various environments: their processes exhibited live on stage become performances. Jefta’s work deals with illusion, the visible and the invisible, synesthesia, darkness and light, labor, the uncanny, affect, voice and image. Currently on tour are <As It Empties Out (2014)>, <Plateau Effect (2013-for Cullberg Ballet)>, <THIS IS CONCRETE (2012)>, as well as the previous <GRIND (2011)>.
California-born Carolyn Carlson is defined primarily as a nomad. Carlson is a tireless traveler, always looking to develop and share her poetic universe. Heiress of conceptions and pedagogy of Alwin Nikolais, she arrived in France in 1971. The following year, with <Rituel pour un rêve mort>(ritual for the dead dream), she wrote a poetic manifesto that define an approach to her work which she has adhered to ever since. She prefers "visual poetry" to the term "choreography" to describe her works. For four decades, her influence and success have been considerable in many European countries. She played a key role in the birth of French and Italian contemporary dance. She has created more than a hundred pieces, many of which are now major chapters in the history of dance. She won the Prix Benois de la danse in 1998, and in 2006 her work was rewarded the first ever Golden Lion given to a choreographer by the Venice Biennale.
Russell Maliphant trained ballet at The Royal Ballet School and has honed capoeira, t’ai chi, and
‘rolfing’ therapy. He founded Russell Maliphant Company in 1996, and has worked with renowned
companies and artist including Sylvie Guillem, Balletboyz and Lyon Opera Ballet. He has received
the Critics’ Circle National Dance award for best modern choreography three times, as well as a
South Bank Show award and an Olivier, amongst many other awards and nominations. His work is
characterized by a unique approach to flow and energy and an ongoing exploration of the
relationship between movement, light and music. For 20 years, Maliphant has worked closely with
pioneering lighting designer Michael Hulls to explore and realise these ideas. Russell Maliphant
and Michael Hulls both are Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells.

Marlene Monteiro Freitas (Cape Verde, 1979) studied dance at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, in Lisbon at
the Escola Superior de Dança and at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. In her native country,
Cape Verde, she co-founded the dance group Compass and collaborates with musician Vasco Martins.
She worked with Emmanuelle Huynh, Loïc Touzé, Tânia Carvalho, and Boris Charmatz. Her works have
something in common: openness, mixing, mixing and intensity. She is also the co-founder of her
production, P.OR.K. First invited SIDance in 2016 with <(M)IMOSA>, she visited SIDance2018
again with <Bacchae-Prelude to a Purge>, the Winner of the prestigious Silver Lion for
Dance at Venice Biennale 2018.

Studied dance, the humanities and media art, Stephanie Thiersch found her own company MOUVOIR in 2000. She was a visiting professor at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Gießen and at the college for Music and Dance Cologne. She is the artistic director of the international dance and theatre festival GLOBALIZE:COLOGNE. She sees her choreographic works as being part of a broader paradigm of interdisciplinary movement research, which initially involved media, then visual arts and pop culture, and currently integrates music in the choreographic mindset. Since 2011 she has been dealing with the subject of post-colonialism with artists from Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2016 she organized “City dance Köln” based on an idea by the dance pioneer Anna Halprin, which involves of over 600 performers and 10,000 participating passerby moving and dancing their way through the city of Cologne.
Guy Weizman and Roni Haver start their career as dancers in the Batsheva Dance Company. In 1998 they were taken to Groningen and worked with Galili Dance and made their first choreographies. They set up Club Guy&Roni in 2002 and from that time on they have toured at home and abroad. From home base Groningen they build a quirky repertoire, with performances that far exceed the genre ‘dance’. The Club wants to bring dancers and other artists from around the world together to create a melting pot of ideas. They were ‘choreographers in residence’ at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater. The duo co-produced some works with in Tuscany and Belgrade, as well as Gothenburg Ballet (Sweden) and Carte Blanche (Norway). They won the Golden Mask Award in Russia with <L’Histoire du Soldat> in 2013, and also won in two consecutive years a Swan Award-the Oscar of dance- in 2013 and 2014.
This world famous dancer/choreographer, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker from Belgium, did not study dance until high school, but instead music. She studied dance at Mudra School and Tisch School in New York. In 1982, she created the famous choreography (phase) to the minimalistic music of Steve Reich. She founded her own company Rosas and created the breakthrough piece . This work has received great attention from around the world, and has been performed for over 30 years. People used to post clips of their own dancing of this work, and the singer Beyonce was suspected to have plagiarized the movements of the piece for her music video. Her works draw on principles from geometry, numerical patterns, nature, and social structures to offer a unique perspective on the body’s articulation in space and time. Her newest choreography, set to Bach’s six Brandenburg Concertos, premiered in the fall of 2018.
ICK Dans Amsterdam is the internationally renowned company founded in 2009. It consists of dancer group and ICK junior for next generation. The two founders Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten have been working together for more than 25 years in their search for a new dance language and a new approach to the body, in which the body in revolt and the mobility of certainties are the guiding principles. ICKamsterdam merged with Dansmaker Amsterdam into a new platform, ICK Artist Space in January.
Jonas and Lander met at Escola Superior deDanca in Lisbon in 2010, where they started their first collaborations in dance. The work of the creators JONAS&LANDER is recognizable in the Portuguese dance scene with unique features exploring the fusion between different performing arts, with special emphasis on music. This characteristic is immediately explored in Cascas d’OvO(2013), their first creation.. Since then, JONAS&LANDER have established themselves with pieces recognized by the critics and with strong encouragement from arts structures in Portugal and Europe. Two of their pieces are elected for Aerowaves Priority Company. Bate Fado stands out in the Portuguese dance scene with an intense tour in Portugal and other countries in 2021 and 2022, besides being elected Best Show of 2021 in Expresso newspaper.
He danced with Batsheva Dance Company from 2006-2013. In 2016, Shahar began his international choreographic career when he created FLAT for Frontier Dance Land, Singapore, Sweden, Austria, France. In 2013, Shahar established a research group of dancers, scientists and choreographers called TNUDA which is affiliated with Weizmann Institute and explores the connection between science and movement.
Astolfi, one of the most prolific and acclaimed choreographers in the international scene, founded Spellbound Dance Company in 1994 (now known as Spellbound Contemporary Ballet). He has taught at major dance centers as a guest teacher, including teaching contemporary dance at the Opera Ballet School in Rome from 2016 to 2018. He has also been the Artistic Director of the DAF center in Rome since 2009, while working intensively as a freelancer for many European companies.
Hélène Taddei Lawson is a choreographer and a dancer who develops a multidisciplinary around with contemporary and urban dance, sound design and voice and video. She creates choreographic pieces, site-specific performance as museums, public space happening, dance videos and movies, artistic installations. She’s also artistic director of Plateforme Dance Festival in Bastia and co-artistic director of Dissidanse itinerance, Corsican, Mediterranean and International choreographic network.
